The seniors relinquished their hold on the James O’Hagan Cup when they were beaten by a good Slaughtmanus team. Injuries to Eugene Mullan and Gary Keane during the game and the absence of Mark Ferris also injured did not help.
The scorers were Cathal Faulkner 0-5, Paul Ferris 0-2, Eugene Mullan and Gary Keane 0-1 each. Still it was a good work out coming up to the start of the league against Castledawson on Sunday week.
Earlier in the week the seniors had good challenge game against Coleraine. Two first half goals saw the Eoghan Rua lead by 2-3 to 0-4 at half time but Ballerin had the edge in the second half but still went under by 2-11 to 0-11.
The minors played Rasharkin in a challenge game which ended all square.
Firstly congratulations to Derry on their fine win over Dublin at Celtic Park on Sunday.
Our seniors have reached the James O’Hagan Cup final for the fourth time in the last six years. As holders they will now take on familiar rivals in the final. Our team made hard work of beating a much improved Doire Trasna team.
At half time Trasna led by 1-6 to 1-5 against the breeze but Ballerin improve din the second half to win by 4-9 to 2-11. Gary Keane scored two of the goals. The others came from Paul Ferris and a superb effort from Willie McGilligan.
The seniors have been drawn to play Lissan in the first round of the county intermediate championship.
