Club notes from 10th February
CLUB PRESENTATIONS The annual club presentations took place in the Bushtown Hotel on Saturday evening with the usual good attendance. The various awards were presented by Fr Brendan Crowley, Seamus Doherty from club sponsors TBF Thompson (Garvagh) Ltd and camogie team manager Shane McDonnell.
Club stalwart Melinda Robinson did the double by winning the camogie Club Person award and the overall club award. Her sister Katrina MacCombe won the camogie player award and the players player accolade went to Frances Black . The under 18 player as Caoimhe Higgins. Mark Ferris was senior football player of the year and the minor was joint between Darren Robinson and Killian Mullan. Pearse McIntyre was Reserve player winner. Ursula McKillop was the Ladies Club Person and Riona Lafferty the most promising ladies football player. The Barney McNicholl Memorial Award for the best club team of 2018 went to the under 12 hurlers. Hurling coach Sean Cassidy received the award on behalf of the team. Good to see Katie Deighan closing in the big 90, present at our dinner again. She is the wife of the late Paddy Deighan a founder member of the club 75 years ago.
CONDOLENCES We express our sympathy to the family of the late Kathleen Deighan of St. Columba’s Park Maybouy who passed away on Saturday.
COACHING Club Chairman Paddy Higgins has expressed thanks to all who have volunteered to help out with the under age teams in football, camogie, hurling and Ladies football. 43 have volunteered to help out and 59 attended the in house Child Protection course held in the GAA hall recently.
CHALLENGE GAME The seniors had their first game of the season last Friday evening. They played Castlederg of Tyrone in high winds and lashing rain coming out on top by two points. Paddy pot of soup was warmly received at the end of the game.
